Pairing drawings with their captions

This original classroom example is separate from official assessment questions.

The class prepares a display of drawings and caption cards. First, a member writes the drawing’s title on the back of both the drawing and its caption card. Next, another member pairs cards with drawings by matching those titles. Before placing them on the display, a checker reads each pair’s titles again. The double check is included because loose cards can be mixed while the display is being arranged.

Try the activity

Explain what the checker does and why the procedure includes that step. Which information makes the matching possible? Would saying “the check comes last” fully explain its purpose?

Follow the reasoning

The checker reads the titles on both parts of each pair to confirm the match before display. Matching is possible because the procedure first places the same title on a drawing and its caption card. The final sentence gives the reason for checking again: loose cards can become mixed during arrangement. “Comes last” supplies order but not that purpose. An explanation should connect the identifying information, the pairing action, and the stated risk of a mix-up. The procedure describes a planned check; it reports no completed display or count of mistakes found.

Notice what needs more practice

The text is an invented technical description, not evidence that a real class eliminated every mistake. It does not say whether titles are unique, so repeated titles would require another identifying detail. State that limit rather than adding a hidden numbering system.
