3.1 Weather and Climate Patterns
- 3.1.1Water Cycle, Weather, Climate, and AtmosphereAnalyze and interpret data to reveal patterns that indicate typical weather conditions expected during a particular season
- 3.1.2Water Cycle, Weather, Climate, and AtmosphereObtain and communicate information to describe climate patterns in different regions of the world
- 3.1.3Engineering Design and Solution EvaluationDesign a solution that reduces the effects of a weather-related hazard
3.2 Effects of Traits on Survival
- 3.2.1Organism Needs, Structures, and Life CyclesDevelop and use models to describe changes that organisms go through during their life cycles
- 3.2.2Organism Needs, Structures, and Life CyclesAnalyze and interpret data to identify patterns of traits that plants and animals have inherited from parents
- 3.2.3Cells, Body Systems, and GeneticsConstruct an explanation that the environment can affect the traits of an organism
- 3.2.4Cells, Body Systems, and GeneticsConstruct an explanation showing how variations in traits and behaviors can affect the ability of an individual to survive and reproduce
- 3.2.5Organism Needs, Structures, and Life CyclesEngage in argument from evidence that in a particular habitat (system) some organisms can survive well, some survive less well, and some cannot survive at all
- 3.2.6Organism Needs, Structures, and Life CyclesDesign a solution to a problem caused by a change in the environment that impacts the types of plants and animals living in that environment
3.3 Force Affects Motion
- 3.3.1Forces, Motion, and InteractionsPlan and carry out investigations that provide evidence of the effects of balanced and unbalanced forces on the motion of an object
- 3.3.2Scientific Tools, Measurement, and Data DisplaysAnalyze and interpret data from observations and measurements of an object's motion to identify patterns in its motion that can be used to predict future motion
- 3.3.3Forces, Motion, and InteractionsConstruct an explanation that the gravitational force exerted by Earth causes objects to be directed downward, toward the center of the spherical Earth
- 3.3.4Forces, Motion, and InteractionsAsk questions to plan and carry out an investigation to determine cause and effect relationships of electric or magnetic interactions between two objects not in contact with each other
- 3.3.5Magnets, Electricity, and CircuitsDesign a solution to a problem in which a device functions by using scientific ideas about magnets

Utah Grade 3 Science FAQ
Does Utah test science in grade 3?
No. Utah gives RISE Science in grades 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8, so grade 3 students do not sit a state science test this year. Utah also gives a high school biology test. The standards on this page are still the ones grade 3 teachers teach, and they are what the next science test builds on.
Which standards does grade 3 science in Utah follow?
Utah follows the Utah Science with Engineering Education Standards, published by the Utah State Board of Education. All 14 of this grade's standards are listed further down the page with their official codes.
How long are the practice tests?
Each of the six practice tests has 25 questions and a 45-minute timer. The timer auto-submits at zero and you get your score, a breakdown by science area, and a written explanation for every question.
Is any of this free?
Yes — every practice test, quiz, and flashcard set on this page is free and needs no login. Your progress is saved in your own browser and nowhere else.
What is the fastest way to use this page?
Take practice test 1 cold. Look at the topic breakdown, pick the weakest science area, and do that skill quiz. Then read the quick review for that area and come back for practice test 2.
