PS Physical Sciences
- 3.PS1.A.1Matter Properties, States, and ClassificationPredict and investigate that water can change from a liquid to a solid (freeze), and back again (melt), or from a liquid to a gas (evaporation), and back again (condensation) as the result of temperature changes
- 3.PS1.B.1Heating, Cooling, and Changes of StateConstruct an argument with evidence that some changes caused by heating or cooling can be reversed and some cannot
- 3.PS2.B.1Forces, Motion, and InteractionsPlan and conduct investigations to determine the cause and effect relationship of electric or magnetic interactions between two objects not in contact with each other
LS Life Sciences
- 3.LS1.B.1Organism Needs, Structures, and Life CyclesDevelop a model to compare and contrast observations on the life cycle of different plants and animals
- 3.LS3.A.1Organism Needs, Structures, and Life CyclesConstruct scientific arguments to support claims that some characteristics of organisms are inherited from parents and some are influenced by the environment
- 3.LS3.B.1Evidence Explanation Variations Characteristics Among Individuals Same SpeciesUse evidence to construct an explanation for how the variations in characteristics among individuals of the same species may provide advantages in surviving and finding mates
- 3.LS3.C.1Organism Needs, Structures, and Life CyclesConstruct an argument with evidence that in a particular ecosystem some organisms — based on structural adaptations or behaviors — can survive well, some survive less well, and some cannot
- 3.LS3.D.1Organism Needs, Structures, and Life CyclesMake a claim about the merit of a solution to a problem caused when the environment changes and the types of plants and animals that live there may change
ESS Earth and Space Sciences
- 3.ESS2.D.1Water Cycle, Weather, Climate, and AtmosphereRepresent data in tables and graphical displays to describe typical weather conditions expected during a particular season
- 3.ESS2.D.2Water Cycle, Weather, Climate, and AtmosphereObtain and combine information to describe climates in different regions of the world
- 3.ESS3.B.1Claim About Merit Existing Solution Levies Tornado SheltersMake a claim about the merit of an existing design solution (e.g. Levies, tornado shelters, sea walls, etc.) that reduces the impacts of a weather-related hazard
ETS Engineering, Technology, and Application of Science
- 3.ETS1.A.1Engineering Design and Solution EvaluationDefine a simple design problem reflecting a need or a want that includes specified crtieria for success and constraints on materials, time, or cost
- 3.ETS1.B.1Engineering Design and Solution EvaluationGenerate and compare multiple possible solutions to a problem based on how well each is likely to meet the criteria and contraints of the problem
- 3.ETS1.C.1Carry Out Fair Test Which Variables Controlled FailurePlan and carry out fair test in which variables are controlled and failure points are considered to identify aspects of a model or prototype that can be improved

Missouri Grade 3 Science FAQ
Does Missouri test science in grade 3?
No. Missouri gives MAP Grade-Level Assessment Science in grades 5 and 8, so grade 3 students do not sit a state science test this year. Missouri also gives a high school biology test. The standards on this page are still the ones grade 3 teachers teach, and they are what the next science test builds on.
Which standards does grade 3 science in Missouri follow?
Missouri follows the Missouri Learning Standards: Science, published by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. All 14 of this grade's standards are listed further down the page with their official codes.
How long are the practice tests?
Each of the six practice tests has 25 questions and a 45-minute timer. The timer auto-submits at zero and you get your score, a breakdown by science area, and a written explanation for every question.
Is any of this free?
Yes, every practice test, quiz, and flashcard set on this page is free and needs no login. Your progress is saved in your own browser and nowhere else.
What is the fastest way to use this page?
Take practice test 1 cold. Look at the topic breakdown, pick the weakest science area, and do that skill quiz. Then read the quick review for that area and come back for practice test 2.
