How to Pass the FTCE Math Test?
If you’re preparing to become a teacher in Florida, you will likely need to pass the Florida Teacher Certification Examinations (FTCE). However, your testing requirements in the overall FTCE will depend on your application process.
Math is one of four subtests in the general knowledge section that you will need to pass, and some consider it the most difficult.
There are two subsequent math tests that you may need to pass: Mathematics 6-12 and Middle Grades Mathematics 6-9.
Below is some helpful information on the tests and what you will need to know. If you have a reasonable math background, then the tests should be easy. However, if math has never been a strong subject for you, then make sure you brush on on the topics and run through some practice tests.

Practice FTCE Testing
One of the first steps you should attempt is an online practice test. The practice test will give you an understanding of what the test will be like, and it will also give you a sense of how well you’ll do and what areas you may need to improve.
Perform a couple of tests to start with to get a good baseline. Then, as you progress through any studying, go back and retest. Make sure you are improving on your test scores, otherwise something is not working in your study methods.
Hire a Math Tutor
If you find that math is a seriously lacking subject for you, then a math tutor may be an excellent option to give you a fast and comprehensive program to get you up to speed so that you can pass the test.
A math tutor may be expensive but should only be required for a short time before taking the test, potentially 1-3 months, and perhaps you see them once a week. The math tutor should also be able to point you in which direction you should focus your study for your specific needs.
Self-study Online
There are plenty of free options or paid online programs to help you pass the FTCE math tests.
You may try to take the free approach and just study the areas you know are required. There are also free online guides and resources to help you prepare. You should even find Youtube videos available on the subject if you prefer to learn that way.
If you want to spend a little money, you can get a guide specific to each test you’re looking to pass. Study guides will provide a complete outline of everything required and may even offer example tests to try.
Final Thoughts
As a prospective teacher, you should have a reasonable understanding of math, even if that’s not a subject you will specifically teach. The FTCE is an excellent opportunity to ensure you are at the level required to teach students confidently.
If there are any tests you fail, then that is simply an area you need to practice, and there are no issues in retaking tests once you’ve brought your skills back up to the required level.
Study and prepare using whatever methods work best for you, but make sure you take online practice tests before attempting the actual test to ensure you know the test format and if there is something specific you need to address.
