Matter and Its Interactions

  • Standard 1Particles, Atoms, Elements, and CompoundsPlan and carry out investigations to provide evidence that matter is made of particles too small to be seen
  • Standard 2Scientific Tools, Measurement, and Data DisplaysAnalyze data collected through observations and measurements to identify materials based on their properties, including color, hardness, and reflectivity
  • Standard 3Matter Properties, States, and ClassificationConduct investigations to provide evidence that the total weight of matter is conserved during phase changes when substances are heated, cooled, or mixed
  • Standard 4Material Properties and UsesAnalyze data from tests to determine whether a new substance is formed after two or more substances are combined

Motion and Stability: Forces and Interactions

  • Standard 5Forces, Motion, and InteractionsMake a claim, supported by evidence, that the gravitational force exerted by Earth pulls objects towards the center of Earth
  • Standard 6Forces, Motion, and InteractionsDesign and conduct a test to modify the speed of an object falling due to gravity

Ecosystems: Interactions, Energy, and Dynamics

  • Standard 7Organism Needs, Structures, and Life CyclesSupport an argument from evidence that plants primarily use air and water to process matter needed for growth
  • Standard 8Organism Needs, Structures, and Life CyclesUse evidence to explain that energy from the sun is present in animals' food and is used for body repair, growth, motion, and maintenance of body warmth
  • Standard 9Organism Needs, Structures, and Life CyclesCreate and use a model to explain the transfer of matter and energy between the environment and organisms within it

Earth's Place in the Universe

  • Standard 10Sun, Moon, Earth, Stars, and Space SystemsObtain and communicate information to explain why the sun appears to be larger and brighter than other stars
  • Standard 11Sun, Moon, Earth, Stars, and Space SystemsAnalyze data that reveal patterns of daily changes in length and direction of shadows, day and night, phases of the moon, and seasonal appearance of some stars in the night sky

Earth's Systems

  • Standard 12Water Cycle, Weather, Climate, and AtmosphereUse a model to represent how any two of Earth's systems (atmosphere, biosphere, geosphere, and hydrosphere) interact and support life
  • Standard 13Earth's Water, Freshwater, and Saltwater ResourcesConstruct a model to represent the distribution of freshwater and saltwater on Earth

Earth and Human Activity

  • Standard 14Natural Resources and Human ImpactsObtain and evaluate information to communicate how science-based solutions are being used to protect Earth's natural resources and its environment
  • Standard 15Engineering Design and Solution EvaluationDesign, test, and revise solutions to clean a polluted environment

Alabama Grade 5 Science FAQ

Does Alabama test science in grade 5?

No. Alabama gives ACAP Summative Science in grades 4, 6, and 8, so grade 5 students do not sit a state science test this year. The standards on this page are still the ones grade 5 teachers teach, and they are what the next science test builds on.

Which standards does grade 5 science in Alabama follow?

Alabama follows the Alabama Course of Study: Science, published by the Alabama State Department of Education. All 15 of this grade's standards are listed further down the page with their official codes.

How long are the practice tests?

Each of the six practice tests has 35 questions and a 60-minute timer. The timer auto-submits at zero and you get your score, a breakdown by science area, and a written explanation for every question.

Is any of this free?

Yes, every practice test, quiz, and flashcard set on this page is free and needs no login. Your progress is saved in your own browser and nowhere else.

What is the fastest way to use this page?

Take practice test 1 cold. Look at the topic breakdown, pick the weakest science area, and do that skill quiz. Then read the quick review for that area and come back for practice test 2.
