8. Register for TSI Math Test

Participating in a Pre-Assessment Activity is mandatory before you take the TSI Assessment. It is a requirement that you complete this activity before you take the test.

9. Take the TSI Math test

Arrive at your testing facility at least 30 minutes before the start of the test for checking.

Bring a valid form of identification (current driver’s license, military ID, passport, or state-issued ID card). Examiners who do not present a valid, unexpired photo ID are not allowed to test.

Cell phones, watches, and other electronic communication or photographic devices are prohibited in testing rooms.

It is also forbidden to eat or drink or smoke during the test.

10. Check your score reports

Keep in mind that developmental education courses often cost the same as a college-level course but do not count toward a certificate or degree program. Therefore, it’s best to avoid the developmental course by becoming college-ready before enrolling in a college or university.

11. Interpret your score

Students who receive a score at or above the cut scores are considered “college-ready”. They are eligible to enroll in any entry-level college course.

Keep in mind that some college courses require passing scores in more than one area.

The passing cut scores for TSI as set by the state are:

  • Mathematics: a minimum score of 350
  • Reading: a minimum score of 351
  • Writing: a score of 5 on the essay section or a score of 4 on the essay and a minimum score of 340 on the multiple-choice section

How long are your TSI Assessment scores valid?

The TSI Assessment and all TSI alternative tests (TAKS, SAT, ACT, and STAAR) are valid for 5 years from the day the exam was taken.

Can I go to college with a TSI?
