Area & Perimeter Calculator (All Shapes, with Diagram)
Use this free area and perimeter calculator for rectangles, squares, triangles, circles, parallelograms, and trapezoids. Pick a shape, enter its dimensions, and get the area and perimeter (or circumference) with a labeled diagram and the formula steps.
How to use it
- Choose a shape from the menu.
- Enter the dimensions it asks for.
- Read the area and perimeter, and see the shape drawn to scale.
The formulas
Rectangle: A = l·w, P = 2(l+w). Square: A = s², P = 4s. Triangle: A = ½·base·height. Circle: A = πr², C = 2πr. Parallelogram: A = base·height. Trapezoid: A = ½(a+b)·h.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between area and perimeter?
Area is the space inside a shape (square units); perimeter is the distance around it. For a circle the ‘perimeter’ is the circumference.
How do you find the area of a triangle?
A = ½ × base × height. The calculator also finds the perimeter from the three side lengths.
Does it draw the shape?
Yes — it draws the selected shape to scale with the dimensions labeled.
