SBAC Grade 4 Math Free Worksheets: Free Printable Smarter Balanced Practice with Keys
For families in Smarter Balanced states — and they stretch from California to Connecticut — fourth grade is the year the math gets noticeably more demanding. The numbers grow long: students read, round, and compare whole numbers well into the hundred-thousands. Multiplication becomes a multi-digit procedure and, just as importantly, a way of thinking — the idea that one quantity can be a certain number of times another. Division starts leaving remainders, and those remainders have to be interpreted, not just written down.

How to use these worksheets at home
Aim for short, regular sittings rather than long ones. About fifteen minutes is the sweet spot for a fourth grader; beyond that you are usually managing fatigue rather than teaching math. Running skills in connected pairs makes a real difference, especially with a Common Core-based test like the SBAC, where the standards are built to lean on one another. Keep the answer key set aside until the work is done, then go through it together. That review — talking through why the right answer is right — is where the learning actually takes hold, much more than in a flawless first try. A note about SBAC at Grade 4
The Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium produces the SBAC Mathematics assessment, given in the spring across its member states, from California to Connecticut. It is built directly on the Common Core State Standards for Mathematics, so the skills practiced on these worksheets and the skills measured on the test are drawn from the same framework.
The Grade 4 SBAC is known for asking students to reason and explain, not just compute.
