ParaPathways Math Passing Score by State (5759): 2026-27 Guide
The ParaPathways math passing score is set by each state, not by ETS. On the 310-350 scale, most states that use the test require 334 on Mathematics (5759) plus 332 on Reading and Writing (5758). Arkansas, Missouri and Washington require 325 in math, and Minnesota requires 332. The math subtest has 36 questions in 60 minutes, with an on-screen four-function calculator.
ParaPathways math passing scores by state
These are the qualifying scores on ETS’s official state requirements page, checked in November 2026. ETS says that “to pass, test takers must meet or exceed the listed score.” In every state below you need both subtests, 5759 Mathematics and 5758 Reading and Writing. The page does not list the full ParaPathways test (5757) as a separate requirement; your scores come from the two subtests.

When ParaPro ends in your state
ETS calls ParaPathways “a modern successor to ParaPro,” launched in late 2025. The switch is happening state by state, and the official documents do not all agree, so read dates carefully:
- Indiana: the State Board memo says only ParaPathways is available from September 1, 2026.
- Washington: ESD 112 says the state no longer accepts ParaPro for tests taken after September 1, 2026.
- Rhode Island: ETS lists only ParaPathways as approved as of March 1, 2026.
- Arkansas and Maryland: the ETS page says ParaPro is accepted through August 31, 2027. Older state documents give earlier dates: an Arkansas memo from September 2025 said “until August 31, 2026,” and a February 2026 Maryland policy said ParaPro would not be available after August 2026.
- The test itself: a Connecticut State Board document says ETS planned to sunset ParaPro on September 1, 2026, yet the ETS 2026-27 bulletin still lists ParaPro (1755) with fees.
The Arkansas memo also listed a Reading and Writing cut of 324, while the current ETS page lists 322. When two official sources disagree, your hiring district or state agency has the final word.

One warning: the official parapro.ets.org pages for 5757 and 5759 still say the test has “90 selected-response questions” and takes “150 minutes.” That is the ParaPro description. The 2026-27 bulletin gives 60 minutes for math and 85 for Reading and Writing, and ETS’s own slide deck lists 36 and 51 questions. Trust the bulletin.
What the passing score means in questions
Indiana’s and South Carolina’s documents show that 334 on the math subtest equals 20 of 30 raw-score points. That is 20 ÷ 30, or about 67%. The test has 36 questions but 30 raw-score points; ETS does not explain the difference publicly, so aim to answer every question well rather than counting on unscored items.
The cut for 325 states (Arkansas, Missouri, Washington) is lower, but no official document we found gives its raw-score equivalent, so do not try to convert it.
Missed by a few points? The Bridge option
ETS offers Bridge for ParaPathways for candidates who score within one standard error of measurement (SEM) of their state’s passing score. The math SEM is 3.8 points, and Bridge costs $29.50. In a 334 state, 334 − 3.8 = 330.2. In Washington, 325 − 3.8 = 321.2, and ESD 112 lists 321 as Washington’s Bridge score. Your state must have adopted Bridge, so confirm eligibility with ETS.
Worked examples: ParaPathways-style math
Your pace is 60 minutes for 36 questions, or 1 minute 40 seconds per question. These examples use the skills in the two content categories.
1. Percent of a class
75% of 28 students passed a spelling quiz. How many passed? 0.75 × 28 = 21.
2. Mean and median
Quiz scores: 82, 90, 75, 88, 95. The sum is 430, and 430 ÷ 5 = 86 (mean). In order, 75, 82, 88, 90, 95, the middle value is 88 (median).
3. Area with unit conversion
A rug is 9 feet by 12 feet. Area = 9 × 12 = 108 square feet. One square yard is 3 × 3 = 9 square feet, so 108 ÷ 9 = 12 square yards.
4. Order of operations and a basic calculator
Evaluate 6 + 4 × 3 − 8 ÷ 2. Multiply and divide first: 6 + 12 − 4 = 14. Many basic four-function calculators work in the order you type, so keying the whole line in at once can give ((6 + 4) × 3 − 8) ÷ 2 = 11. Do the multiplication and division as separate steps.
5. Fractions
A student read 3/8 of a book on Monday and 1/4 on Tuesday. 1/4 = 2/8, so 3/8 + 2/8 = 5/8 of the book. The calculator does not do fractions, so practice them by hand.
Common mistakes and myths
- “ETS has one national passing score.” The bulletin says, “ETS does not set qualifying (passing) scores.”
- Comparing ParaPro and ParaPathways scores. ParaPro cuts are in the 440s to 460s; ParaPathways uses a 310-350 scale. A 334 is not “low.”
- Passing only math. Every state in the table requires both subtests.
- Trusting the 90-question figure. That text describes ParaPro.
- Bringing a calculator. Use the on-screen four-function one.
How to prepare
- Confirm your state’s score and whether your district still accepts ParaPro.
- Take our ParaPathways practice test with sample questions and answers.
- Review number sense, percents, fractions, area and data with the lesson map on our ParaPro practice hub; the math skills overlap.
- Drill percent problems and mean, median, mode and range without a calculator first.
- Prepare the other half with our ParaPathways 5758 Reading and Writing guide.

The ETS 2026-27 bulletin says ETS does not set qualifying (passing) scores. Each state or agency sets its own.
Most listed states require 334 in math and 332 in Reading and Writing. 325 is used by Arkansas, Missouri and Washington, and 457 is a ParaPro score.
Math is 60 minutes and Reading and Writing is 85 minutes. The 150-minute figure describes ParaPro.
ETS provides an on-screen four-function calculator. You may not bring your own.
20 / 30 = 0.667, or about 67%. Using 36 questions as the total gives 56%, which mixes up questions and raw-score points.
Multiply and divide first: 6 + 12 – 4 = 14. Working left to right, as some basic calculators do, gives 11.
9 x 12 = 108 square feet, and 1 square yard = 9 square feet, so 108 / 9 = 12. Dividing by 3 instead of 9 gives 36.
334 – 3.8 = 330.2. Bridge for ParaPathways is for candidates within one SEM of the passing score; confirm eligibility with ETS.

Frequently asked questions
What is the passing score for ParaPathways math?
It depends on your state. ETS does not set passing scores. On the ETS state requirements page, most states require 334 on the 5759 Mathematics subtest, Arkansas, Missouri and Washington require 325, and Minnesota requires 332. You must also pass the 5758 Reading and Writing subtest, usually at 332. Check the ETS page and your district before testing.
How many questions are on the ParaPathways math test?
The Mathematics subtest (5759) has 36 questions in 60 minutes, according to ETS's ParaPathways slide deck and Washington's ESD 112, and the 60-minute time is in the 2026-27 bulletin. The questions are split about evenly between Numbers and Operations and Geometry, Measurement, and Data Analysis. The 90-question figure on some ETS pages describes ParaPro.
Can you use a calculator on ParaPathways math?
Yes. The ETS 2026-27 bulletin says an on-screen four-function calculator is provided on the Mathematics subtest. You may not bring your own calculator. A four-function calculator adds, subtracts, multiplies and divides, but it does not handle fractions or order of operations for you, so practice those by hand.
Is ParaPathways replacing ParaPro?
Yes, state by state. ETS calls ParaPathways a successor to ParaPro. Rhode Island accepts only ParaPathways from March 1, 2026, Indiana and Washington switched on September 1, 2026, and the ETS page shows Arkansas and Maryland accepting ParaPro through August 31, 2027. Many states still list only ParaPro, so confirm with your district.
How many questions do you need to get right to pass?
For states with a 334 math cut, Indiana and South Carolina documents say 334 equals 20 of 30 raw-score points, about 67%. ETS has not published raw equivalents for the 325 cut used in Arkansas, Missouri and Washington. If you fall just short, the Bridge for ParaPathways option may help.
