ParaPathways 5758 Reading and Writing Study Hub

Understand the Reading and Writing subtest, build a focused practice routine, and check official requirements before you book. Work patiently: identify what a question asks, find the evidence or rule that answers it, and explain why the tempting alternative does not fit.

This is an independent learning resource, not an ETS product. Confirm that your state, district, or employer accepts test 5758 before registering.

ParaPathways 5758 at a glance

85 minutes · separately timed Reading and Writing subtest · computer-delivered · 51 selected-response questions in the current ETS Study Companion. Reading is about 30 questions (60%); Writing is about 21 (40%). One or more answer choices may be required, and ETS says some questions may not count toward the score.

Score rules vary by agency. ETS does not set one universal qualifying score; check your state or district’s current requirement.

Start with the right test

5758 is the Reading and Writing subtest of ParaPathways. ETS’s 2026–27 bulletin identifies 5758 and 5759 as two separately timed subtests; 5758 is 85 minutes and 5759 is 60 minutes. The older ParaPro Assessment is test 1755. Do not use 1755 timing or score information as if it applied to 5758.

ETS’s current 5758 storefront still repeats a general 90-question, 150-minute, three-subject description. That conflicts with the specific subtest timing in the current bulletin and the detailed Study Companion, so this hub uses the subtest-specific sources for 5758 facts. Check the test code on your own registration before test day.

Build your reading and writing skills

Read for the main point

State the passage’s central idea in one clear sentence. Then separate details that directly support it from examples, interesting facts, and claims that go beyond the text.

Use evidence before inference

Mark what the passage says first. A sound inference stays close to those details; it does not add a cause, motive, or certainty the author never supplies.

Revise for meaning and correctness

Check the sentence’s subject and verb, pronoun reference, punctuation, and boundaries. Read the whole sentence again after each edit so a local fix does not create a new problem.

Apply skills to classroom situations

In a classroom scenario, follow the teacher’s plan and support the student’s thinking. Do not replace the teacher’s instructional decisions or give the student an answer to copy.

A practical study route

  1. Check your starting point. Use the official 5758 practice resource or your own diagnostic. Record misses by skill—main idea, evidence, inference, grammar, sentence boundaries, or revision—rather than only counting a total score.
  2. Repair one pattern at a time. For each miss, explain the rule in your own words, work one fresh example, then explain why the strongest distractor fails. Keep reading and writing practice in separate short blocks.
  3. Practice with a timer. Use the official subtest time to rehearse steady pacing. ETS offers an optional timer in its practice test. A practice percentage tracks your own work; it is not an official qualifying score.
  4. Confirm the requirement. Check the current state and district list and ask the hiring or licensing agency which test and qualifying score it accepts. Requirements can differ by agency and can change.
