Inverse Function Calculator (Free, with Graph)
Use this free inverse function calculator to find the inverse of a linear or rational function f(x) = (ax + b)/(cx + d). It shows f⁻¹(x), the domain of each, and a graph of both reflected over the line y = x.
How to find an inverse
Write y = f(x), swap x and y, then solve for y. For f(x) = (ax + b)/(cx + d) the result is f⁻¹(x) = (−d·x + b)/(c·x − a). Set c = 0 and d = 1 for a simple linear function.
How to use it
- Enter a, b, c, d.
- Press Find inverse.

Frequently asked questions
What functions are supported?
Linear functions and rational (Möbius) functions of the form (ax + b)/(cx + d).
When does an inverse not exist?
When ad − bc = 0 the function is constant or undefined and has no inverse.
Why graph y = x?
A function and its inverse are mirror images across the line y = x.
