Logarithm Calculator (Any Base, Free)
Use this free logarithm calculator to evaluate log base b of x for any valid base. It uses the change-of-base formula and also shows the common log (base 10) and the natural log (base e).
Change of base
For any base, logb(x) = ln(x) / ln(b). The calculator computes this and, when the answer is a whole number, confirms it with bk = x.
Frequently asked questions
What is a logarithm?
log₆(x) answers ‘to what power must the base b be raised to get x?’. For example log₂(8) = 3 because 2³ = 8.
What is the change-of-base formula?
log₆(x) = ln(x)/ln(b) — it lets you compute a log in any base using natural logs.
What’s the difference between log and ln?
‘log’ usually means base 10 (common log); ‘ln’ means base e (natural log). The tool shows both.
