Overview of the PERT Mathematics Test
The Postsecondary Education Readiness Test or PERT is a college placement test used by colleges and universities in Florida. Its purpose is to determine what level of college courses in English and math an applicant is adequately prepared for.
There are three parts to the PERT test: math, reading, and writing. Each section has no time limit, but usually lasts 45 minutes and includes 30 questions. There are five questions in each section that are experimental, and it does not count in your score, but you do not know which questions are experimental.

Can you use a calculator on the PERT math test?
You are not allowed to use school-provided or personal calculators while taking PERT. An on-screen calculator will appear within the testing window of the mathematics subtest for specific questions. A calculator will appear on the screen in the math subtest window for specific questions.
Do you get a formula sheet on the PERT math test?
The PERT math test shows formulas for geometric measurements and some concepts of algebra. Formulas are provided to testers so that they focus more on application rather than memorizing formulas. However, the PERT test does not provide a list of all the basic formulas needed to know the test. It means that you should be able to memorize many mathematical formulas in PERT.
Is the PERT math test hard?
The PERT test utilizes a computer-adapted grading system that changes the difficulty of questions as students make their way through the exam. In other words, if students answer them correctly, the questions gradually become harder, or if they answer incorrectly, they gradually become easier. Therefore, the higher the difficulty level, the better your score will be at the end.
What is a passing PERT math score?
If you get a score above 114, this score is considered a passing score. Scores between 114 and 122 permit you to enroll in Intermediate Algebra. If you manage 123 or higher, you can enter College Algebra or potentially even advanced courses. On the other hand, a score below 114 means you are in Elementary Algebra College or College Pre-Algebra, which are remedial, non-credit math courses.
