Passage as a whole

Textual analysis

Use the official CLT content brief and the current test information for the administration you plan to take. CLT, CLT10, and CLT3–8 have different purposes and formats.

A practical study route

Turn the outline into focused practice

  1. Take a timed official practice set. Record whether misses came from overall comprehension, a detail, a relationship, an inference, or evidence.
  2. Map passages briefly. Note the main idea, paragraph roles, shifts, and evidence before spending time on individual details.
  3. Return to text for proof. Find the lines that support an answer and reject choices that add an unsupported assumption.
  4. Practice contrasting answers. Explain why the strongest answer fits the passage and why the nearest distractor goes too far.
  5. Repeat under section timing. Review errors after each set, then practice with the 40-minute section limit.
