How to Scale a Function Horizontally?
Horizontal scaling stretches or compresses a graph along the x-axis. Replacing x with bx in y = f(x) compresses the graph by a factor of b when b is greater than 1, and stretches it when b is between 0 and 1, the opposite of what most students expect. Below: the rule and worked examples.
