New York Chemistry Practice Tests
These full-length tests are written to match the Regents Examination in Physical Science: Chemistry, same question styles, same balance of topics, with a timer and full explanations.
Each test has 80 questions and a 100-minute timer you can switch off. Multiple choice, select-all, numerical fill-in, ordered-response and hot-spot questions are all included, and every question comes back with a worked explanation. Tests open right here on the page.
New York Chemistry Study Tools
Two free tools that open right here on the page. Use them between practice tests to close the gaps the score report shows you.
Chemistry Flashcards
194 cards across all nine units, every term, formula and rule a high-school chemistry course expects you to recall on sight. Shuffle, flip, and star the ones you miss.
Chemistry Quick Review
64 cards of big ideas, must-know facts, easy-to-confuse pairs and exam traps. Built for the night before, when you need the whole course in one pass.
Both tools are the same for every state, because the chemistry is. What changes state to state is the exam wrapped around it. That is what the practice tests above handle.

New York Chemistry Standards and Assessment
New York takes a chemistry-specific state exam, the Regents Examination in Physical Science: Chemistry.
| Standards | New York State P-12 Science Learning Standards |
|---|---|
| Course name | Physical Science: Chemistry (the course and exam formerly titled Physical Setting/Chemistry) |
| State exam | Regents Examination in Physical Science: Chemistry |
| Chemistry-specific exam | Yes |
| Questions | 45-55 questions organized into 9-11 question clusters |
| Time | 3 hours |
| Question types | multiple-choice (~60% of points, four options) constructed-response (~40% of points) phenomenon-based clusters with multiple stimuli |
| Calculator | Scientific or graphing calculator permitted; graphing calculator memory must be cleared; symbol-manipulation and infrared-capable calculators prohibited |
| Reference materials | Reference Tables for Physical Science: Chemistry (2025 edition) – one printed copy per student required |
| Required to graduate | No |
What this means for you
The exam has been redesigned: the old Physical Setting/Chemistry Regents is being replaced by the Regents Examination in Physical Science: Chemistry measuring the three dimensions of the P-12 Science Learning Standards, first administered June 2026. Blueprint weights are Structures and Properties of Matter 30-40%, Chemical Reactions 36-46%, Energy 10-14%, Waves and Electromagnetic Radiation 5-7%, Matter and Energy in Organisms/Ecosystems 2-5%, Engineering/Technology/Applications 5-11%; graduation_requirement is false because a Regents or local diploma requires passing one science Regents exam, which chemistry can satisfy but so can Living Environment or Earth and Space Sciences.
New York Chemistry FAQ
Does New York have a state chemistry exam?
Yes. New York gives the Regents Examination in Physical Science: Chemistry, a chemistry-specific exam.
What is on these practice tests?
Each test has 80 questions drawn from the full high-school chemistry course, measurement and significant figures, atomic structure and periodic trends, bonding and molecular shape, the mole and stoichiometry, reactions and solutions, thermochemistry, kinetics and equilibrium, gases, acids and bases, electrochemistry, and lab practice. Question types include multiple choice, select-all, numerical fill-in, ordered response and hot spot.
How long does a test take?
About 100 minutes if you use the timer. You can also take it untimed, which is the better choice the first time. You learn more from working a problem through than from running out of clock.
Are the 2 tests different from each other?
Yes. No question is shared between them, so a second test is a real second measurement rather than a memory check.
Do I need an account?
No. Every test, the flashcards and the quick review are free and open, with no login and nothing to install. They open in a window on this page, your answers stay put while it is open, and your score and explanations appear the moment you submit.
Can I use a calculator?
On the Regents Examination in Physical Science: Chemistry: Scientific or graphing calculator permitted; graphing calculator memory must be cleared; symbol-manipulation and infrared-capable calculators prohibited The practice tests here let you use whatever your class allows.
What reference materials are provided?
Reference Tables for Physical Science: Chemistry (2025 edition) – one printed copy per student required
