Weight Measurements
What is the difference between mass and weight? The answer to this question and many other points about weight are given in this article.

Weight is a measure of how heavy an object is. Weight is measured in standard traditional units.
An object’s mass is the quantity of material it has in it. Mass gets measured in traditional metric units.
Folks many times say “weight” to stand for “mass”, and the other way around, since Gravity is nearly equal all over the Earth, no one notices any differences.
But don’t forget these aren’t the same thing,
and they might have varying measurements.

Grams and kilograms are \(2\) units utilized for measuring mass with the metric system.
From grams, we can get all the other metric units utilizing the traditional metric prefixes.
Milligram(mg) | \(0.001\) gram or \(11000\) gram |
Centigram(cg) | \(0.01\) gram or \(1100\) gram |
Decigram (dg) | \(0.1\) gram or \(110\) gram |
Gram(g) | \(1,000\) milligrams |
Dekagram (dag) | \(10\) grams |
Hectogram (hg) | \(100\) grams |
Kilogram (kg) | \(1,000\) grams |
Metric ton(t) | \(1,000\) kilograms |
The system used to measure weight but (not mass) in the traditional system is centered on tons, pounds, and ounces. The main unit of weight is the pound(lb).
\(1pound (lb) = 16 ounces (oz)1 ton (T) = 2,000 pounds\)
The ounce is the tiniest unit of weight.
To translate from one unit to another one, you can utilize a unit analysis.
(a) To translate from bigger units to lesser units, you must multiply via the proper unit ratio.
(b) To translate from lesser units to bigger units, you must multiply via the reciprocal of the proper unit ratio.
(c) Dividing or Multiplying via a unit ratio is statistically the same as utilizing a proportion to translate between the units of measure.
Weight Measurements – Example 1:
Convert to grams.
\(4 kg=\)____\(g\)
Solution:
You should multiply by \(1000\) to convert kilograms to grams: \(1kg=1000 g →4 kg= 4×1000=4000 g\). The answer is \(4000 g\).
Weight Measurements – Example 2:
Convert to kilograms.
\(7000 g=\)____\(kg\)
Solution:
You should divide by \(1000\) to convert grams to kilograms: \(1g=0.001 kg → 7000 g= 7000\)÷\(1000=7 kg\). The answer is \(7 kg\).
