Representing Percentage

A percentage may be a number or a ratio that can be expressed via a fraction of 100. In another word, it means a part per each hundred.
To know the percent of a number, you must divide it by the whole and then multiply this by 100.
For instance, 2% signifies two-hundredths.
Representing Percentage – Examples 1
Write the percentage of the shape that is shaded.
Solution:
The shape is made of 100 parts.
60 of the parts are shaded.
So, 60% of the shape is shaded.

Representing Percentage – Examples 2
Write the percentage of the shape that is not shaded.
Solution:
The shape is made of 100 parts.
76 of the parts are shaded.
24 of the parts are not shaded.
So, 24% of the shape is not shaded.
