Rounding

Rounding replaces a number with a nearby number that is easier to use.

The rounded number is less exact but often easier to estimate with.

Examples

47 rounds to 50 to the nearest ten
3.68 rounds to 3.7 to the nearest tenth
149 rounds to 100 to the nearest hundred

Common mistake

Look at the digit to the right of the place you are rounding to.
