HISTORICAL CPA EXAM RESOURCE
CPA BEC Legacy Study Center. Know what has changed.
Business Environment and Concepts (BEC) belonged to the pre-2024 four-section CPA Exam. The current exam has a different Core and Discipline structure. Use this center to interpret older Mometrix BEC resources and move your review to current AICPA blueprints.
Historical BEC reference • Current AICPA structure clearly identified • Not affiliated with AICPA
WHAT CHANGED
BEC is historical, not part of today’s CPA Exam.
Use current section names when planning a new exam attempt.
The AICPA’s transition announcement identified December 15, 2023 as the anticipated last day to test under the old sections. The Evolution-aligned exam launched in January 2024. If you have questions about past credits or a specific licensing application, confirm the rules with your jurisdiction’s board of accountancy.
This independent page is an archive and transition guide for older BEC study material. It does not provide current BEC exam specifications, an active BEC practice test, or licensing advice.
CURRENT CPA EXAM STRUCTURE
Use the current Core and Discipline sections.
Choose from current AICPA materials; each section has its own blueprint.
AUD — Auditing and Attestation
Core study covers auditing, attestation, professional responsibilities, risk, evidence, conclusions, and reporting. Review the current AUD blueprint for the applicable topics and weights.
FAR — Financial Accounting and Reporting
Core study covers financial reporting and accounting topics. The existing Effortless Math CPA practice center is a FAR-only resource and does not represent the complete CPA Exam.
REG — Taxation and Regulation
Core study includes federal taxation and regulation. Use the current REG blueprint and AICPA pronouncement policy for the applicable exam period.
BAR — Business Analysis and Reporting
A specialized section emphasizing business analysis and reporting. Review its own current blueprint; it is not simply the old BEC section renamed.
ISC — Information Systems and Controls
A specialized section focused on information systems and controls. Review the ISC blueprint rather than assuming it contains all legacy BEC information-technology topics.
TCP — Tax Compliance and Planning
A specialized section focused on tax compliance and planning. It has its own blueprint and is not a replacement for BEC business content.
The new model distributes and reshapes content across distinct Core and Discipline blueprints. The page does not claim a one-to-one mapping from an old BEC topic to a current section; check each topic against the official task statements.
A SAFE STUDY ROUTE
Use older BEC material as background only.
For current candidates, start with the section you actually plan to take.
- 01
Confirm your exam path. Identify your three Core sections and the Discipline you intend to take. For a prior-credit or transition question, contact your jurisdiction’s board.
- 02
Open the current blueprint. Use AICPA’s current Core or Discipline blueprint to identify tested topics, skill levels, and effective dates.
- 03
Check each legacy topic. If you use an older BEC chapter or flashcard, compare its subject to the current blueprint task statement. Treat overlap as background unless the current blueprint supports it.
- 04
Drop old format and score assumptions. Do not use old BEC timing, testlet counts, written-communication tasks, or score expectations to plan for a current section.
- 05
Practice the section you will take. Use current section practice and AICPA sample materials. The old BEC label should not be used to report readiness for BAR, ISC, TCP, or the CPA Exam as a whole.

QUICK ANSWERS
Questions about CPA BEC materials.
Is BEC on the current CPA Exam?
No. The CPA Evolution-aligned exam launched in January 2024 with a Core and Discipline structure. The current Core sections are AUD, FAR, and REG; candidates also choose one Discipline, BAR, ISC, or TCP.
What replaced BEC?
AICPA describes a new Core and Discipline structure rather than a single BEC replacement. Candidates take all three Core sections and choose one of three Discipline sections. Use the relevant current blueprint instead of treating any one section as BEC under a new name.
Can I still use my Mometrix BEC study guide?
Only as historical or general background. Mometrix says its CPA products have not been updated for the 2024 redesign. Compare each topic to the blueprint for the current section you plan to take.
When did the old BEC section end?
AICPA’s 2023 transition announcement anticipated December 15, 2023 as the final testing day for the old CPA Exam sections. The CPA Evolution-aligned exam launched in January 2024. Check your jurisdiction for any individual credit or transition issue.
Does old BEC material count as preparation for BAR, ISC, or TCP?
Not by itself. Some concepts may be useful background, but each current section has a separate blueprint. Check a topic against the selected section’s current task statements and use current practice materials.
Is this an official AICPA study center?
No. This is an independent historical resource. It does not offer a current BEC test or official exam guidance and is not affiliated with or endorsed by AICPA, NASBA, or any board of accountancy.
