A bar graph uses bars to compare amounts in different categories.

What it means

The taller or longer the bar, the larger the value it represents.

Also called: bar chart

Examples

A bar can show 12 students chose soccer
Bars can be vertical or horizontal
A scale of 2 means each tick adds 2

Common mistake

Always read the scale. A bar that reaches 6 may mean 6, 12, or 60 depending on the graph.
