Explain your reasoning · Fraction division

A jug contains 3/4 liter of juice. Each serving is 1/8 liter. How many servings can be poured? Draw or describe a model and explain what the quotient counts.

Open a sample approach and scoring guide

One possible approach: 6 servings. The quotient 3/4 ÷ 1/8 asks how many one-eighth-liter groups fit into three-fourths of a liter. Since 3/4 = 6/8, six servings fit.

2-point guide: 1 point for a matching fraction model or the equivalent 6/8; 1 point for 6 servings and an explanation of the group size.

Try the problem before opening the example. A tutor or teacher can use the guide to discuss your representation and reasoning.
