What is on ISEE Primary 2?
The level is set by the grade your child is applying to, not the grade they are in now.
| Section | Questions | Time | What to practice |
|---|---|---|---|
| Auditory comprehension | 6 | 7 min | Listen to a short passage and answer from what you heard. |
| Reading | 18 | 20 min | Read simple passages, details, and meaning. |
| Mathematics | 24 | 26 min | Numbers, operations, shapes, and everyday problems. |
Free Primary 2 mathematics practice test
A complete, original mathematics section with 24 questions and the actual 26-minute time limit. Work online for an instant raw score and explanations, or print the PDF and mark answers by hand.
This covers the mathematics section only. It is independent practice, not an official ISEE form or a predicted ISEE score. Use ERB’s sample for the complete test experience.
What to practice first
Understand, then answer
Read a short story aloud, then ask who, where, what happened, and which sentence supports the answer. Practice listening to a story once and recalling a detail; the six auditory items make this level unique.
Make the thinking visible
Count forward and backward, compare two numbers, add and subtract with pictures or objects, identify common shapes, and solve a short story problem. Ask your child to explain the answer in words before choosing an option.
For listening practice, read a four-sentence story once, then ask one direct question and one ‘why’ question. Keep it playful.
Try one together
Mia has 8 blocks. She gives 3 to Sam. How many blocks does Mia have now?
Show the answer and reasoning
5 blocks, because 8 − 3 = 5.
This is an original warm-up question, not an official ISEE item.

ISEE Primary 2 Reading Vocabulary Flashcards
30 numbered reading words with short contexts, unique hints, search, categories, and shuffle.
Made for age-appropriate reading and word meaning in context. ERB describes Primary ISEE as assessing reading and mathematics; this original practice deck is not an official or predicted word list.
Flashcards and quick review
Use the 100 original Primary 2 flashcards for short daily practice, then read the one-page quick review before a timed section.
A calm four-week study path
Week 1 · Get comfortable
Look through an official sample together. Practice reading directions, marking one answer, and moving on when a question feels hard.
Week 2 · Build the basics
Spend 10–15 minutes on reading and 10–15 minutes on math, four days this week. Talk through mistakes without turning every session into a test.
Week 3 · Try short timed sets
Practice one section in smaller chunks. Notice whether reading, computation, or understanding directions slows your child down.
Week 4 · Rehearse and rest
Complete an official sample at a relaxed pace, review only a few recurring gaps, and keep the day before the test light.
Use the official sample
ERB offers free online sample tests for every ISEE level and printable examples in its family guides. Start there to see the actual screen and question style; then use this page to decide which skills to revisit.
Questions families ask
Does my child need to write an essay?
No. ERB says the current Primary 2, 3, and 4 tests have no writing sample.
Should we practice with a timer every day?
No. Learn the skills first, then use a few short timed sets so the pace feels familiar. A young student benefits more from steady, low-pressure practice than repeated full tests.
Can a child choose a different ISEE level?
The ISEE level follows the grade the student is applying to. Confirm the application grade with the school or registration materials.

Sources and a note about format
Section counts and standard times follow the ERB ISEE Quick Facts guide. The ERB at-home family guide confirms section timing. ERB’s current registration page confirms that Primary levels have no writing sample. Older ERB guides did list Primary writing prompts; check the current test materials when preparing.
