What the SHSAT ELA Section Measures
For fall 2026, ELA has 50 questions within a 180-minute exam shared with Math. The section includes Reading Comprehension and Revising and Editing. Passage-based sets let you revisit questions in that set until you submit it; standalone ELA questions lock after you advance. In fall 2026 the exam is computer-adaptive, while the content areas and total questions stay consistent.
For official administration and item-format details, see the NYC Public Schools SHSAT overview ↗.
How to Use This Hub
Start with one Reading Comprehension skill and one Revising and Editing skill. Practice each separately, check your reasoning, and keep a short list of patterns you want to catch next time. Once individual skills feel steady, work through mixed passages and editing questions.
