MEET THE TEST
What does RBT practice cover?
Understand the scope of this practice resource.
The Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) is a paraprofessional certification from the Behavior Analyst Certification Board. RBTs assist in delivering behavior-analytic services under close, ongoing supervision. The examination assesses entry-level technician knowledge; passing an independent practice test does not satisfy certification, training or supervision requirements.
The 2026 RBT examination uses the third-edition Test Content Outline. Candidates answer 85 four-choice questions in 90 minutes: 75 scored items and 10 unidentified pilot items. The scored outline allocates 13 questions to Data Collection and Graphing, 8 to Behavior Assessment, 19 to Behavior Acquisition, 14 to Behavior Reduction, 10 to Documentation and Reporting, and 11 to Ethics. The official time includes introductory examination activities and review; breaks consume time.
This is original study practice following the 2026 outline, with explanations for all 85 questions. Its ten practice pilot positions are allocated editorially because BACB does not disclose their domain allocation. Practice feedback is unscaled and does not predict an official score. The booklet does not reproduce testing-center software, practical competency assessment, eligibility review or supervised clinical training.

Use these study areas as a checklist.

SMALL STEPS. STEADY PROGRESS.
Make your next study session useful.
Choose a step you can finish today.
Read the third-edition outline first. Match each task to a skill you can explain, demonstrate in supervised training, or identify in a short scenario.
Practise measurement with a timer and a small observation record. Check what starts and stops each measure before calculating a rate, percentage or average.
Distinguish related procedures by their defining condition: what is added or removed, whether responding increases or decreases, and when reinforcement is delivered.
Complete one 90-minute practice attempt with answers closed and no calculator or references. Include directions and review in that session, then use the explanations to examine uncertain choices.
Review errors by study area. Bring questions about clinical implementation, safety or professional scope to qualified supervision rather than treating a study explanation as permission to change a client's plan.
QUICK ANSWERS
RBT: common questions.
Understand the format, then choose your next step.
What is the RBT examination?
It is the BACB examination for Registered Behavior Technician certification, assessing entry-level technician knowledge. RBT services require close, ongoing supervision; the examination is one part of the certification pathway.
Which RBT content outline applies in 2026?
The third-edition RBT Test Content Outline took effect January 1, 2026. This study resource uses its six domains and 43 tasks. Use BACB's current handbook to confirm the requirements for your application and examination.
How many questions are on the RBT exam, and how much time is allowed?
The official exam contains 85 multiple-choice questions with four options each: 75 scored and 10 unidentified pilot questions. It allows 90 minutes including introductory examination activities and review. Breaks use that time.
What does this free RBT practice test include?
The original form includes 85 four-choice questions, two labeled graphs, and explanations for every answer. Its 75 blueprint items follow the official scored domain counts; the ten practice pilot positions use an editorial allocation. Attempt it before opening the explanations.
Can I use a calculator on the RBT exam?
The official examination does not permit a personal calculator or reference materials. A dry-erase board is provided at the test center. For this practice form, use no calculator or references and use a blank workspace only to approximate the supplied board.
Does a practice percentage tell me whether I will pass?
No. BACB sets its examination standard through a formal standard-setting process, and this practice form does not reproduce official scoring or predict a passing result. Use explanations and error patterns to decide what to study next.
Does this test replace RBT training or the competency assessment?
No. Written practice supports study of examination knowledge. Required training, competency assessment, eligibility documentation and qualified supervision are separate parts of certification and service delivery.
