Starting with AI concepts?
Read the Domain 1 guide first. Practice distinguishing rules, prediction, classification, generation, and retrieval. Write down what evidence each approach would need.
Choosing or funding use cases?
Start with Domain 2. For each proposal, name the baseline, intended outcome, full cost, uncertainty, and evidence that would change the funding decision.
Accountable for risk or policy?
Focus on Domain 3. Map intended use, data permission, decision authority, affected users, incident handling, and the point where a person can intervene.
Leading adoption or operations?
Focus on Domain 4. Check roles, workflow ownership, workforce practice, capacity, service continuity, and the evidence needed before the next deployment stage.
Have 30 minutes?
Read one public domain outline, review six flashcards, and answer one quick-review scenario without opening its rationale.
Have a longer session?
Take the practice set untimed, mark both missed and guessed items, then return to the public objective and the domain guide for each weak area. Retry later and compare your raw result only with your own earlier attempts.
AIB-C01 Quick Review
Read each mini-scenario, choose the next decision in your own words, then reveal the rationale and evidence to check.
A claims team has fixed loss codes and free-form descriptions. Which parts call for rules and which should be evaluated for AI?
Keep deterministic rules for fixed codes. Evaluate a classifier on varied descriptions using reviewed examples, then compare routing accuracy and exception handling with the current process.

A pilot cuts drafting time, but review takes longer and payroll hours do not change. What should the business report?
Measure the end-to-end workflow and quality against its baseline. Report released time as capacity until it is assigned to other work or verified as avoided cost; include review and operating expense.
Related public source: AWS Domain 2 objectives ↗
A vendor is reliable, but the team wants to use customer records for a new purpose. What approval is still needed?
The business data owner and governance process must authorize that specific purpose and access. Supplier evidence informs the decision but does not replace internal accountability.
Related public source: AWS Domain 3 objectives ↗
A 20-person pilot meets its targets; leaders propose an immediate 2,000-person launch. What should the next gate test?
Authorize a bounded next stage with end-to-end quality, workload capacity, user coverage, ownership, and stop criteria. Decide on enterprise expansion only after representative transfer evidence.
Related public source: AWS Domain 4 objectives ↗
An online retailer predicts late deliveries before they happen. Which signal can the team monitor while delivery labels are still pending, and when can it assess whether the predictions were accurate?
Monitor input or prediction distributions as an early warning while delivery labels are pending. Once verified outcomes arrive, compare predictions with those outcomes using a preselected quality measure. Report early shifts separately from measured prediction quality and business impact.
Related public source: AWS Domain 1 objectives ↗
A service team requests every customer field and a year of message history to prioritize billing questions. The first pilot only needs to route a customer’s current question. What should the data owner approve before any records are shared?
Before sharing, the data owner should document the routing purpose, approve the minimum fields needed to operate and evaluate the pilot, confirm access and permitted use through the organization’s data and privacy review, and set retention and deletion dates. Do not include the year of history unless the pilot design shows why it is necessary.
Related public source: AWS Domain 3 objectives ↗
A support assistant gives inconsistent formatting and sometimes cites an outdated policy. Should the team use retrieval, model adaptation, or both, and what evidence should it compare before changing the workflow?
Use retrieval from the approved current policy source, with version and freshness checks, to address outdated facts. Consider adaptation only if formatting remains inconsistent after prompt and workflow changes. On the same held-out cases, predefine acceptance criteria for policy correctness, citation currency, format adherence, and failure severity; keep changing facts in retrieval.
Related public source: AWS Domain 1 objectives ↗
At 400 cases per day, one in four cases needs human review; staff can handle 60. Is the workflow ready to expand?
No. Expected review demand is 100 cases per day, leaving a 40-case capacity gap. Resolve and retest review operations before expanding volume.
Related public source: AWS Domain 4 objectives ↗
A steering group starts a meeting by asking which AWS AI product to buy, but it has not described the work, intended outcome, or risk. What decision should come first?
First document the workflow problem, baseline, measurable outcome, affected users, and consequences of error. Then compare AI with simpler alternatives and define the evidence and risk limits a bounded pilot must meet before a product is selected.
Related public source: AWS Domain 2 objectives ↗
Finance needs a pilot’s actual spend and an expansion estimate. Which public tools answer each question?
Use Cost Explorer to inspect observed usage and charges; use Pricing Calculator assumptions for the proposed expansion. Compare full costs—including people, support, retries, and integration—over the same period.
Related public source: AWS Domain 2 objectives ↗
A company is considering moving an AI workflow to a managed platform. The new option may reduce support work, but the team has not compared operating costs, response time, data controls, portability, or recovery. What should the decision record compare before approval?
Compare the current and proposed operating models against the workflow’s required response time, total cost at expected volume, data and security controls, integration and portability, support ownership, recovery objective, and exit needs. Set acceptable thresholds before a bounded test; approve expansion only if the evidence meets them.
Related public source: AWS Domain 2 objectives ↗
An assistant is moving from one team to a second. The second team has no named operations owner for outages or a tested fallback route. What should be in place before expanding use?
Name accountable business and operations owners, define service-continuity and escalation steps, and rehearse fallback at expected workload. A supplier uptime commitment does not establish the organization’s recovery capacity.
Related public source: AWS Domain 4 objectives ↗
A vendor reports 98% accuracy on a curated demo for recommendations that affect customer eligibility. What evidence and decision are needed before the organization approves this use?
Evaluate the intended workflow on approved, representative cases; examine error consequences and outcomes for affected groups; set acceptance limits and name the accountable business and risk approvers. A curated aggregate result alone does not establish suitability for this use.
Related public source: AWS Domain 3 objectives ↗
A drafting assistant is moving from one pilot team to billing staff. Staff can check routine drafts, but they have not practiced disputed cases or the new handoff. What should leaders test before rollout?
Give billing staff role-specific practice with routine, uncertain, and disputed cases; assign human decision and escalation owners; and rehearse the handoff under expected workload before expanding. Pilot accuracy alone does not show the receiving team is ready.
Related public source: AWS Domain 4 objectives ↗
A policy changes every week, and answers sometimes quote an old version. Which control addresses source freshness?
Retrieve from the approved current policy source, retain the version and passage used, and test questions against changed clauses and exceptions. Track stale-source failures separately from general answer quality.
Related public source: AWS Domain 1 objectives ↗
Aggregate quality meets the target, but one affected group sees more harmful errors. What should change in the decision?
Review outcomes for that group with the accountable risk and business owners, identify the cause, and apply a proportionate limit or pause while the issue is tested. A pooled result cannot erase a known difference in impact.

AIB-C01 Flashcards
Try to answer from memory, then open a card. Use these cards to review public exam-guide terms and decisions. The service-name cards are optional background: AWS’s detailed guide recommends high-level familiarity, while the current beta overview says AWS services knowledge is not assessed. Prioritize portable business judgment; service names are context, not test targets.
What are the four AIB-C01 domains?
AI Fundamentals and Literacy; AI Strategy and Business Value Creation; AI Governance and Responsible AI Leadership; Business Readiness, Leadership, and AI Transformation.
What does a multiple-response question require?
Choose at least two correct responses from five or more options. Select all correct responses to receive credit.
What is a business KPI?
A measure tied to a business outcome, such as time to resolution, cost per case, customer satisfaction, or revenue.
What is a baseline?
A measurement of current performance used to judge change after an initiative or pilot.
What does retrieval-augmented generation add?
Relevant external information is retrieved and supplied to a generative model when it responds.
When is human oversight important?
When the impact, uncertainty, or failure consequences call for a person to review, correct, escalate, or stop the process.
What is model drift?
A change in data or conditions that can reduce a model’s performance over time.
A pilot worked in one region. What must be checked before expansion?
Compare the next region’s workflow, users, data, volume, oversight, and operating conditions with the pilot. Name evidence that would show the result transfers; the first region’s result alone is not enough.
Why record data ownership?
Clear ownership and sharing rules help teams identify who can approve access, purpose, quality work, and responsible use.
How do AI, machine learning, and generative AI relate?
AI is the broader field; machine learning is a way to learn patterns from data; generative AI produces new content such as text or images.
What does inference mean?
Inference is a trained model using new input to produce an output, such as a prediction, classification, or generated response.
What makes an evaluation set representative?
It reflects the intended users, normal operating conditions, important edge cases, and relevant groups. The test should resemble the decisions the system will face after launch.
How should a leading indicator be chosen?
Use an early measure with evidence that it predicts the intended later outcome. Activity counts alone do not demonstrate a business result.
What belongs in a total-cost comparison?
Compare costs over the same decision period, including subscription or usage, integration, oversight, training, migration, and continuing operations when applicable.
How should fairness monitoring change over time?
Recheck relevant groups with current data and outcomes when the population, workflow, or operating conditions change.
What is governance by design?
Bring accountable owners, intended-use limits, data rights, risk controls, and human escalation into discovery and planning before the workflow is fixed.
What should a readiness review establish before a pilot?
Name the intended owner, available data and access, workflow capacity, user preparation, operating support, and the conditions that would pause or stop the pilot.
Why agree on shared AI terms in a launch review?
Consistent definitions for terms such as training, inference, and accuracy help teams interpret measures from the same population and outcome. Agree on definitions before comparing reports.
What do prompt examples teach?
Examples can demonstrate a desired response format or style. They do not guarantee current facts; use approved, current sources when factual currency matters.
What evidence can support a causal business claim?
Use a relevant comparison, a consistent outcome definition, and a time period that accounts for other changes. A before-and-after difference alone may have another cause.
Why inventory shadow AI use?
An inventory helps the organization find unapproved tools, data exposures, business owners, and workflows that need review before setting appropriate access and safeguards.
A customer disputes an answer and asks for a person. What should the workflow do?
Offer a visible route to a qualified reviewer in the dispute flow, pass along the answer and source context, and state how the customer will receive a decision.
Who decides whether an AI use is ready?
The organization’s accountable business and governance owners make the use-specific decision with technical, legal, compliance, and operations input.
What is Amazon Bedrock’s high-level role?
AWS describes it as a generative AI platform. The exam guide recommends business-level familiarity with pricing tiers, Guardrails, and Knowledge Bases, not configuration.
When is Amazon SageMaker AI relevant at a high level?
When a business need may call for custom machine learning. Compare a managed service with a custom approach against required capabilities, skills, cost, risk, and operating burden.
What is Amazon Quick?
AWS describes Amazon Quick as a family of AI-powered business assistants for business tasks.
Which AWS tool supports cost estimates?
AWS Pricing Calculator helps estimate proposed usage or scenarios; it does not report what the pilot actually spent.
Which AWS tool helps review observed cost and usage?
AWS Cost Explorer helps analyze observed cost and usage patterns.
Two benefit scenarios straddle the project cost, but the team cannot defend probabilities. Is their midpoint an expected value?
No. A midpoint is an arithmetic average, not an expected value without justified probabilities. Show the range or buy evidence that can narrow it.
Related customer records appear in both training and evaluation data. What can go wrong?
Information from one case can leak into the other set and make results look better than performance on new cases. Group related records before the split.
A model is highly confident that a refund qualifies. What authorizes the payment?
The approved refund policy and current eligibility record authorize the action. Confidence can help route review, but it does not replace business authority.
A generative answer includes a citation. What should a reviewer check?
Confirm the cited passage supports the exact claim, comes from an approved current source, and includes linked exceptions that could change the answer.
What is model adaptation useful for?
Model adaptation changes model behavior for a task, such as following a consistent response pattern. Retrieval supplies current factual information; use it when facts change.
What is AWS Marketplace for in this exam context?
It may be considered when evaluating build-buy-partner choices; a listing does not replace fit, risk, and cost evaluation.
Why assess maturity before choosing the next AI investment?
Place the organization on its current journey, identify people, process, data, technology, and governance gaps, then sequence investment toward a defined business objective.
What indicates an AI-enabled business-model change?
Look for a change in the value customers receive, how the offer reaches them, or how revenue is earned. Faster internal work alone is an operating improvement, not necessarily a new business model.
What should an AI incident handoff record?
Record the affected workflow and decision, the relevant input and output, source or model version, impact, accountable owner, containment step, and criteria for resuming service.
What should a workforce transition plan make clear?
Explain which tasks change, who remains accountable, how staff will practice the new workflow, and where human judgment adds value through oversight, empathy, or exception handling.

AI fundamentals and literacy
Begin with the task and the decision it supports. A stable, explicit rule can handle a fixed code. A predictive model estimates a future outcome; a classifier assigns a known category; a generative system creates a draft; retrieval brings relevant source material into a response. The best choice depends on the input, required output, error cost, and how often the information changes.
Worked example: A claims team receives a fixed loss code and a free-form description. Route known codes with a rule. If the descriptions need classification, evaluate a model on representative, reviewed examples and send uncertain cases to a person. Do not ask a generative model to invent missing facts.
Data check: Confirm that examples are relevant to the intended use, permitted for that use, current, and representative of expected users and conditions. Keep related cases together when separating training and evaluation data so near-duplicates do not make results look better than they are.
Generative AI check: Separate what the system generates from facts it retrieves. Test source relevance, freshness, unsupported claims, and the path to human correction. A confident answer is not proof that its evidence is current or complete.
Try it: A new phrase appears that was not in the routing examples. What held-out test would show whether the classifier still sends it to the right team, and when should it route to a person?
Check your understanding
- Can you distinguish training from inference, prediction from generation, and structured from unstructured data?
- For a fixed code or a new phrase, when would you use a rule, evaluate a model, or send the case to a person?
- What evidence would you check for an agent’s tool permissions, prompt or context limits, retrieval sources, and monitoring?
DOMAIN 2 · 28%
AI strategy and business value
Start with a strategic objective and a measurable business outcome. Write down the current process, who performs it, service quality, volumes, costs, and constraints before a pilot starts. Choose a KPI that can be measured in both the current and proposed workflow, and record what result would support, pause, or stop the initiative.
Worked example: If 1,000 accepted cases each release two minutes, the pilot creates 2,000 minutes of capacity. That is not automatically 2,000 minutes of cash savings. Verify whether the time is reassigned to useful work, avoids overtime, or changes a budget line. Include review, integration, operating, and change-management costs.
Evaluation check: Compare like with like: use the same outcome definition and a relevant baseline, check quality and subgroup effects, and separate observed results from projections. Do not call a pilot’s association a causal benefit if other changes could explain it.
Prioritization check: Compare strategic fit, expected value, feasibility, readiness, uncertainty, sustainability, and the cost of not proceeding. Use probability-weighted expected value only when the probabilities have a defensible basis; otherwise show ranges and the evidence that would change the decision.
Try it: The pilot saves drafting time but increases review time and leaves payroll unchanged. Which end-to-end measures belong in the funding decision, and what would have to change before the team reports cash savings?
Check your understanding
- Can you name the business outcome, baseline, and KPI before the pilot begins?
- Can you separate released capacity from cash savings, and include review, integration, operating, and change costs?
- What evidence supports the build, buy, partner, non-AI, scale, pause, or stop decision?
DOMAIN 3 · 24%
Governance and responsible AI leadership
Governance begins with a named owner for each use, the decision the AI supports, the people affected, the data and permitted purpose, and the harm an error could cause. Use the relevant organizational and regulatory framework as a reference, then record local obligations and who approves exceptions.
Worked example: Before a generated customer response describes an account change, verify that claim against the current authoritative account record. If it does not match, do not send the answer automatically; preserve the evidence and route the case to an accountable person.
Control selection: Match controls to risk: limit access, document data rights, test representative cases, monitor reliability and subgroup outcomes, log consequential decisions, and define a human stop or correction path. A vendor assurance or model confidence score does not replace the organization’s own authorization and oversight.
Incident check: Decide who can pause the workflow, what evidence is retained, how affected users are supported, and what conditions must be met before service resumes. Test the path before a high-impact use goes live.
Try it: Overall quality meets its target, but one affected group receives more harmful errors. What must the owner review before accepting the result?
Check your understanding
- Who owns the use, which people are affected, and what data use has been approved?
- Which controls match the possible harm, and who can pause or correct the workflow?
- If one group sees more harmful errors, what evidence and review are needed before accepting the result?
DOMAIN 4 · 24%
Business readiness, leadership, and transformation
Readiness is an operating capability, not a model score. Check strategy and decision ownership; workforce skills and role changes; process handoffs; data access and quality; technology capacity and integration; governance; and continuity when the system or vendor is unavailable.
Worked example: A pilot meets its quality target, but one in four of 400 daily cases requires human review. That is 100 reviews a day. If available reviewers can handle 60, the workflow has a 40-case daily capacity gap. Add and test capacity before increasing volume.
Adoption check: Identify who uses, supports, approves, and maintains the workflow. Give each role practice with normal, uncertain, and escalated cases. Ask users where an AI step changes responsibility and how they can report a failure.
Scale check: A result from one team or region transfers only when the next setting has comparable data, workflow, users, capacity, and controls—or when differences are tested and addressed. Move through bounded stages with explicit entry, stop, and rollback criteria.
Try it: A 20-person pilot meets its service target. What evidence must the owner collect about operations, users, and continuity before approving a much larger launch?
Check your understanding
- Which people, process, data, technology, governance, or continuity gaps could block the intended use?
- Can the available review capacity support the proposed volume? Show the calculation.
- What evidence, entry criteria, stop conditions, and fallback should be in place before expansion?
