Number rules and expressions — study worksheet

Name: ____________________ Date: ______________

This printable organizer accompanies the hub lesson. It is a guided study sheet, not a scored test or an official ASVAB question set.

1. Read the core idea

Work from the structure of the expression. Complete parentheses and exponents before multiplication or division; do multiplication and division from left to right, followed by addition and subtraction from left to right. Track negative signs carefully. Subtracting a negative is equivalent to adding its opposite. Estimate the sign and size of the result before finishing the arithmetic.

2. Trace the worked example

For −3 + 2 × 5, multiply first to get −3 + 10 = 7. For (−3 + 2) × 5, the parentheses give −5.

Write the steps or relationships that explain the result:

3. Use the method

Rewrite one step per line and keep the operation order visible.

Summarize the method in your own words, with a diagram or labeled units where useful:

4. Record a mistake to avoid

Parentheses change which operations belong together.

Describe how you will recognize and correct this mistake:

5. Review after practice

Use the mixed practice check linked in the hub. Record the skill you need to revisit and your next study step.
