Discounts, tax, and percent change — study worksheet

Name: ____________________ Date: ______________

This printable organizer accompanies the hub lesson. It is a guided study sheet, not a scored test or an official ASVAB question set.

1. Read the core idea

A percent is a rate per hundred. Identify the base amount before multiplying by the decimal rate. A discount subtracts from the original price; tax is added to the applicable taxable price. For percent change, divide the change by the original amount. Successive percentage changes are applied to changing amounts rather than simply added together.

2. Trace the worked example

A $80 item at 25% off has a $20 discount and costs $60 before tax. If tax is 5% of the sale price, tax is $3 and the total is $63.

Write the steps or relationships that explain the result:

3. Use the method

Underline the base amount and name the requested quantity: percent amount, final price, or percent change.

Summarize the method in your own words, with a diagram or labeled units where useful:

4. Record a mistake to avoid

The discount amount and the amount paid are different answers.

Describe how you will recognize and correct this mistake:

5. Review after practice

Use the mixed practice check linked in the hub. Record the skill you need to revisit and your next study step.
