Pressure, hydraulics, and work — study worksheet

Name: ____________________ Date: ______________

This printable organizer accompanies the hub lesson. It is a guided study sheet, not a scored test or an official ASVAB question set.

1. Read the core idea

Pressure equals force divided by area. In an ideal hydraulic system, transmitted pressure can produce a larger output force on a larger piston, while requiring a greater input travel distance. Work equals force times displacement along the force direction. Moving a load farther can require more work even if the force is unchanged. Keep pressure, force, work, and power as separate quantities.

2. Trace the worked example

A 100 N force on 0.01 m² gives 10,000 Pa. At that pressure, a 0.02 m² piston experiences 200 N.

Write the steps or relationships that explain the result:

3. Use the method

Write the relationship and compare which quantity changes while another stays fixed.

Summarize the method in your own words, with a diagram or labeled units where useful:

4. Record a mistake to avoid

The force gain in a hydraulic system is not free energy; the displacement tradeoff matters.

Describe how you will recognize and correct this mistake:

5. Review after practice

Use the mixed practice check linked in the hub. Record the skill you need to revisit and your next study step.
