CLEP Precalculus Practice Test 1

Answer all 48 questions in approximately 90 minutes, administered in two timed sections. Section 1 (Items 1--25, approximately 50 minutes) makes an on-screen graphing calculator, modeled on the TI-84 Plus CE, available; only some Section 1 items actually require it. Section 2 (Items 26--48, approximately 40 minutes) does not permit a calculator of any kind. Every question has one best answer chosen from five options (A--E); no formula sheet or table of values is provided. Content is distributed as follows: algebraic expressions, equations, and inequalities (approximately 20%, including factoring, rational and radical equations, absolute-value inequalities, exponential/logarithmic equations, and polynomial equations), functions: concept, properties, and operations (approximately 15%, including domain and range, composition, inverses, and even/odd symmetry), representations of functions: symbolic, graphical, and tabular (approximately 30%, including linear, quadratic, polynomial, rational, exponential, logarithmic, and piecewise functions, transformations, and translating between graphs, tables, and equations), analytic geometry (approximately 10%, including distance, midpoint, circles, and conic sections), trigonometry and its applications (approximately 15%, including right-triangle trigonometry, the unit circle, trigonometric graphs and identities, and the Law of Sines/Cosines), and functions as models (approximately 10%, including linear, quadratic, exponential, logarithmic, and trigonometric models of real-world contexts).
