CLEP German Language Practice Test 1

The actual CLEP German Language exam (Levels 1 and 2 combined into a single score) contains approximately 120 multiple-choice questions administered in 90 minutes across three timed sections: Listening Rejoinders (15% of the score), Listening Dialogues and Narratives (25%), and Reading, which itself is split into Discrete Sentences (16%), Short Cloze Passages (20%), and Reading Comprehension (24%). Listening together accounts for 40% of the total score and is delivered entirely through recorded native-speaker audio that a printed page cannot reproduce. This practice test covers only the Reading portion of the exam --- discrete-sentence grammar and vocabulary, short cloze passages, and reading-comprehension passages; it cannot replicate the audio-based Rejoinders and Dialogues/Narratives sections, which together make up 40% of the real exam's score. It contains 75 original multiple-choice questions: 25 standalone discrete-sentence items covering case, prepositions, verb tense, word order, and vocabulary, plus 50 questions built around ten original German-language passages (a diary entry, a weather report, a job posting, a newspaper notice, an opinion column, a personal email, a grandmother's letter, a short narrative, a newspaper article, and a discussion piece) spanning both Level 1 (elementary) and Level 2 (intermediate) difficulty. Each question has four answer choices (A--D); select the single best answer. Passages are printed entirely in German; question stems and explanations are in English so learners at any level can follow along. Give yourself about 70 minutes to work through all 75 items at an exam-like pace, then check your answers against the key and read every explanation, even for items you answered correctly. This is an independently written practice test created for this book and is not an official College Board CLEP German Language exam form.
