CLEP College Composition Practice Test 1
Answer all 50 questions in 55 minutes, matching the timing of the official multiple-choice section. Every question has one best answer chosen from five options (A--E). Several items are grouped beneath a shared passage or paired source excerpt drawn from the Revision Skills, Ability to Use Source Materials, or Rhetorical Analysis domains; read each stimulus carefully before answering the question(s) that follow it. Coverage is proportioned across the four official multiple-choice content categories: Conventions of Standard Written English (10%), Revision Skills (40%), Ability to Use Source Materials (25%), and Rhetorical Analysis (25%). Honest scope note: the official CLEP College Composition exam also requires two centrally scored essays --- a 30-minute position essay and a 40-minute source-synthesis essay, 70 minutes total --- each graded holistically by trained human readers and weighted equally with the multiple-choice score in the final 20--80 combined scaled score. Because essay responses cannot be captured by a fixed answer key, this practice test covers only the approximately 50-question multiple-choice section; it does not include or replace essay-writing practice. This independently written practice test is not an official CLEP exam form and is not endorsed by or affiliated with the College Board.
