AP Research Practice Test 1

About this review test. AP Research does not have a timed, proctored multiple-choice or free-response exam. The entire AP score is earned through two performance tasks submitted and evaluated during the course itself: an Academic Paper of 4,000--5,000 words (75% of the AP score, scored by trained AP readers) and a Presentation and Oral Defense of 15--20 minutes with 3--4 panel questions (25% of the AP score, scored by the AP Research teacher using College Board rubrics). There is no answer key waiting at the end of a spring testing window the way there is for most other AP courses. This test is therefore not a simulation of an official AP Research exam---no such timed exam exists. It is an original knowledge-and-skills review covering the research-methods curriculum that AP Research teaches and that the paper and oral defense assess: forming a disciplined research question, evaluating and synthesizing sources, selecting and justifying a methodology, reasoning about validity, reliability, and ethics, separating results from interpretation, building a claim-evidence-reasoning argument, applying citation conventions, and preparing for the presentation and defense. Use it to rehearse the concepts and habits of mind the rubrics reward, not to predict a multiple-choice score. Complete all 53 items at your own pace. Items 1--47 appear in scenarios of three or four questions built around a single research situation, source excerpt, or data stimulus; items 48--53 are standalone. Choose the single best answer from four options (A--D) for each item.
