AP English Language and Composition Practice Test 1
Complete all 45 items in 60 minutes. The official exam allots this same time to Section I: Multiple-Choice, which counts for 45 percent of the total AP score and is followed by a separate 135-minute Section II containing three free-response essays (a synthesis essay, a rhetorical-analysis essay, and an argument essay) that is not represented in this multiple-choice-only companion set. Items 1--30 appear in five scenarios, each built around an original nonfiction passage; six questions follow each passage. Items 31--45 are standalone items, each built around a brief original excerpt. All passages and excerpts below are constructed for practice; none reproduces or closely paraphrases a real published essay or speech. No calculator or outside reference material is permitted.
